4 Tips To Create a Space You Love

Hello my sweet sweet friends. Sorry it’s been so long, but I live in the northeast and we just had that horrible snow storm, and we have so much snow, it’s ridiculous…anyway… Have you ever wanted to work but just didn’t feel inspired? You wish that you could just have that one place, that office, that room, that you could just let all of your creative juices flow, but you don’t know how to get that? Ok well that was me and I’m so excited to say that I have created that place for myself.  I’m going to share my 4 tips on how to create that space for yourself, because we all need a space where we can go and meditate, be alone, work, create, etc.
Lets get started…..
4 Ways
  1. Find a space/room-So you want to find that space or room that you can make your own.  I took our 3rd bedroom that we weren’t using.
  2. Brainstorm the look-So after you find the room, you want to brainstorm what you want your room to look like, feel, etc.  I wanted my space/office to feel peaceful and calming.  I wanted to be able to meditate, do yoga, be inspired, but also have a sitting area, but in that, I wanted my desk so I can do all of my work.
  3. Lay it all out and decorate-This step you want to lay out your space/room and decorate. Declutter if need be, start putting things where you want them to go.  So for me, I got a light blue shower curtain with palm trees on it to remind me of the beach and used it as the focal point for my desk, then I put my desk up against it, I then took an ottoman and put it up against the wall underneath my window, and put a white pillow and a blue blanket on it.  I then found this little stand, that I put next to the ottoman and put a silver plate on it, decorated that with flowers, my pens and a beachy candle.
In between my stand and my ottoman, I have this little basket that has my bible, devotional, notebook and a pen.  Beside my stand, I have my rocking chair, and on the floor in the middle of my ottoman, my stand and chair,  I have this beachy type rug…that way I have a sitting area. I then have a brown stand across from my rocking chair for my pictures and extra things, and then I have my desk.  I also have white lights, flowers and candles everywhere, and an essential oil diffuser.  And then near the door, I have my yoga mat so that I can do yoga whenever I want.
  4. Appreciate -Now you can admire and appreciate the work you took to make your room, space, or office yours and enjoy it. You now have an inspirational space that you can let your creative juices flow into.  I love my space, it smells amazing, it’s peaceful, it’s calming, and I can just relax and do work if need be.
So there are my tips on creating a space you love. Be aware of the space you want in your life because a messy space equals a messy mind.  If you are feeling like you are confused a lot, or just irritated, or feel claustrophobic, take a look at your space and see if it’s messy and needs a little makeover.
Question for the week:
let me know in the comments if you have a space for yourself.

  1. I totally relate to the Messy space, messy mind thought! I live in a TINY apartment with my BF if there are things everywhere and not put in their place I cannot relax. Visual clutter equals chaos.

    1. Exactly. I’m always trying to put things away, because when it’s messy I can’t stand it. I have anxiety really bad so a clean space has to be ok with everyone, which is why I created this space for myself because atleast I know that if everyone else is going to be messy, I have a space or room to go that I can recenter myself.

  2. I have a small little area in my apartment that I want to make mine, these are great tips. I do love the space, I just wish it weren’t so plain.

  3. I need to redecorate most of the rooms in my home; getting organize is the hardest thing, but I like the idea of researching the look you want before you try to start doing things!

    1. That’s a great place to start. I would even go for a corner in my bedroom if I had to…as long as it’s a place that I can sit for like 5 minutes…if that makes sense.

  4. I have a space but it has to be multi-purpose: office, guest room. I like it but I need to do some work b/c it doesn’t make me feel creative.

  5. I love these tips! I turned our downstairs bedroom into my home office/blogging room. Right now it’s our catch-all for wedding stuff and things we don’t know where to put. I’m hoping this summer to get it the way I want it.

    1. That sounds like a great project for the summer. I love picking one project to do over a course of a season, and then seeing the reveal at the end of that season 🙂

  6. I’ve been aching for a space of my own lately… My house is SUPER tiny, and last Spring I had a friend move into my second bedroom (which is about the width of a twin-size bed + about 3 inches, so small) and my boyfriend moved in. I went from living alone with my dog in my shoebox home to suddenly adding two full-grown men. It was rough. My roommate has since moved out, but with the boyfriend and soon his boys will be staying with us, I have no space of my own anymore. The room that was my office but way-laid for the roommate is now becoming a kids’ room and I’m going to have to carve out a corner of the living room to be my craft/art space.

    1. Ya I would try and do that. Something I would also love to suggest is maybe asking your boyfriend to help you. Explain that you would really love just a small space just for you and you know let him on the project. I think that letting people you love know how you feel about something can really go a long way in helping them see that you need your space too. It’s just an idea and I do think it could help to talk to him about it. Let me know how it goes 🙂
