5 Alternatives to Meditation

Hello my sweet sweet friends. How are all of you this week?  I love asking that question because I really want to know how all of you are doing this week.  My week so far has been pretty busy with working nights…(I’m basically a certified nursing assistant, but I work in a house with 4-5 clients)…so I’m pretty busy especially since I’m a mom and a wife and we have a dog.  I love my job, I love my clients, but because I do all of this, there are days were I just need to center my mind.
If you read or follow my blog, you know that I have a few posts about meditation, but there are some people who don’t like the whole meditation process…you know, sitting still and being quiet for like 5-10 minutes or longer if you prefer.  So I have come up with 5 alternatives that I like to do instead of the meditation process.  If you are interested in finding out what they are, then continue reading.
i
1. Lighting a candle or a fire and just watch the flames.
Ok I have no idea why this is so soothing but it really is.  Have you ever just sat and watched a flame?  It makes the vibe in the room so cool.  Another example is camp fires.  Ok so how many of you love camp fires or bonfires?  ME!!!! I love it mostly because they are warm, but also because of the noise of the fire crackling and watching the flame…ok I’m weird but I don’t care, it’s so soothing and awesome.  Let me know if any of you like bonfires as much as I do.
2. Spending time with your pets.
Pets love to spend time with their owners or families and what better day to spend an hour or even less than to play with your pet(s) and show them some love.
3. Have flowers(fake or real) or pick flowers.
I have flowers all over my apartment.  Mine are fake because real flowers die too fast for me and I love to keep my flowers for different seasons and holidays.  I’ve been really into white lately, so I made these flower arrangements and put them all over my apartment.  They make me happy and when I see them, my mind just goes to peace.  So if you love flowers, and meditation is not your think, go pick some up and put them around your place to boost your mood and to bring your mind to peace.
4. Read.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned this on my blog before, but I love reading.  The book in the picture is one that I’m currently reading along with just a regular book.  This book is called Grace Not Perfection by Emily Ley. It’s a good book so far. Not sure if I have done a review yet on it, if I have I will link it below, if not, let me know in the comments if any of you would love to hear the review on it and I will do it.  Anyway, reading is a great alternative to meditation because you can get into a new world and just take your mind somewhere else.
5. Have a great breakfast.
This is one that I love.  If you don’t like to meditate, but you need to just get your mood to a calmer place, start your day off with a good breakfast.  Get up an hour or two earlier and make that breakfast that will make you feel great.  Even if your day doesn’t go great, atleast you know you had a great breakfast.
So those are my 5 alternatives to meditation.  If you want to see  more of my thoughts on meditation, put meditation in the search bar and it will bring up all my posts on it.

Thank you for reading and if you would like to follow me on any other forms of social media you can do right under the search bar on this blog. Question of the week:
In the comments below, share if you have any alternatives to mediation. For those who don’t like the stereotypical type of meditation, what do you do to quiet the mind? 🙂

    1. You are welcome. I know some people are not for the whole sitting still thing, so I was trying to think of other things that could help relax the mind. Glad you liked it 🙂

    1. Haha…ya pets are great. But if you love walking, running, reading, writing, listening to music…..that can be a form of relaxing your mind as well. I have more posts about this is you would like some more ideas. Just type meditation in the search bar and you will find all my posts…or you can research it. It’s about relaxing your mind and just not thinking about all the things you have to do…letting your mind be at peace…but yes a pet can make a difference. 🙂

  1. I kinda cringe when I hear meditation because I just can’t sit and close my eyes and think of nothing. So I like the candle idea and I like reading when I need to calm myself and it actually works never thought if it as an alternative to meditation but I’ll take it. Thank you for sharing.

    1. You are welcome. My favorites are doing yoga, reading or just sitting still listening to music or an audio book or even guided meditation. Meditation isn’t for everyone…I think it’s just finding what works for you to just quiet your mind. 🙂

    1. Ya for me it’s a must. If I don’t…I get really anxious…I have anxiety really bad so I need that time to just relax and quiet my mind…especially when I go to work…when I go to work it’s crazy til about 10AM because I work the night shift…grave yard it what people call it…I work with disabled adults so I have to find ways to relax otherwise I have a really bad night and by the time I get home that morning…I’m just in a bad mood. Great comment though, because I know some people do wonder how I stay sane. 🙂

  2. Great ideas! I think meditation gets a bad rep, but really all the things you mentioned could be part of meditation! My favorite way to quiet my mind is the take a long walk with my camera. 🙂

    1. That sounds like an awesome idea. I mean nature can be really amazing and yes I feel meditation gets a bad rep because people just don’t understand that anything can be a form of meditation. It’s about being present, letting your mind relax and be at peace…whether that is watching a movie, going for a walk, doing yoga, reading, listening to music, dancing,…whatever it is as long as you are giving yourself the time to be present without all of your technology and all of that. Great comment! 🙂

    1. Awesome! yes traditional meditation isn’t for everyone…I always say, find what works for you because sometimes the “traditional” things don’t work for everyone…great reminder though 🙂

  3. I used to meditate years ago, but I didn’t stick with it. I find it easier to do a walking meditation or being still in my head while doing yoga.

    1. Those are great things to do. I do many forms of meditation as well because sometimes I just can’t sit still or don’t have time…so I like to take a walk with my toddler or just watch a movie. 🙂

    1. I’m glad you like the alternatives. I don’t feel traditional meditation is for everyone…but if you can find something that works for you…I feel like that is the important thing. 🙂

  4. I really love the idea of watching a flame as an alternative to meditation. That visual will be incredibly helpful on the days when it’s hard to sit with *nothing* to do. At least, the visual is *something* to do. Thank you for this post. It got me thinking about alternative ways I can meditate!

  5. Yes! These are all things that are totally relaxing to me. Just sitting there petting my dog, or opening a book work wonders. I love watching the flames of a fire. I also really enjoy watching water if I’m by a lake or the ocean or a pond. It’s soothing to see how it moves.

    1. That is really cool. I honestly didn’t know that candle gazing was a form of meditation until I did some research so I’m glad that someone knows a little bit more than me. I seem to learn things from all of you that comment and I love it 🙂

    1. Ya, I feel like some people can’t just sit and do the traditional meditation, so I wanted to research and see if there were alternatives and I’m really glad that I did and I wrote the post so I could share my thoughts with everyone. I love reading so it was great to know that was an alternative. 🙂
